Durtz History:
Just a little backstory… Having trouble sleeping? Keep Reading!!
The Durtz actually began as ``The Tripods`` playing in the Tech Rocks competition for General Assembly Production Centre. Seemed a fitting name… After winning the first night, the boys got to compete at Freshfest 2000, a one-time event at Lebreton Flats that included such acts as Matthew Good and Big Wreck among others. After storming the stage and giving a performance that one judge described as: ``you guys looked like you were playing for a Grammy``… uh… they won!! And it`s been all downhill ever since. :)
They changed their name to The Durtz, a smart move that made people think they were lying when they said they`d won the competition.
Previous winners of the OCRI Tech Rocks Battle of the Bands:
1998 - The Hard Core Cuzaros - Hardware Canada Computing
1999 - Marty Sobb and the Mob - Meridian Scientific
2000 - The Tripods - General Assembly Production Centre
2001 - Bubbles Cash & the Rhythm Method - Atomic Productions
2002 - Waiting for Dave - Fly Weight Solutions
Truth is, they have played hundreds of shows since at all kinds of clubs, bars, parties…
In 2004, Dan Sidoli (the singer) won the Molson Canadian Rockstar competition and was given the opportunity to sing the national anthem for 18 000 people at the July 2nd Renegades game at Frank Clair Stadium. Watch the video here: http://zedsketch.com/media_anthem.html
